School Safety Plan
Drills
WCCUSD follows the drop, cover, and hold on protocol for our students. It involves dropping to hands and knees, crawling under a sturdy table or desk, and holding on until the shaking stops. If students are outside, they should cover their heds and necks with their arms.

Evacuation Points
Our primary evacuation point is the lower (upper grade) playground. In the event of a major earthquake, students and staff will be evacuated to this area until the school building is deemed safe. Adjacent to this area we have a shed with emergency water supplies, commodes, first aid kits, blankets, and emergency rations. In the unlikely event that the playground is deemed unsafe, our secondary evacuation point, which has been assigned to us by the District, is Arlington Park.

Student Pick Up
If you are directed to pick up your child, you must park off campus. Our relatively small parking lot must remain clear for emergency vehicles (this is true even for non-catastrophic earthquakes, in which District personnel may arrive to check for building integrity).

Our Family Reunification Team consists of the office staff and one first grade teacher. Clerical staff will be posted at a table at the top of the ramp leading to the lower playground with emergency contacts and sign out sheets. It is imperative that you check in with Family Reunification prior to retrieving your child; missing students who have not been signed out may be subject to Search and Rescue operations that could pose unnecessary risks to our staff.

Relinquishing Emergency Response Roles
When first responders arrive on campus, school personnel will relinquish our emergency response roles to them. As with all emergencies, responses to seismic events are highly situational; patience and flexibility will be appreciated!
